What is Domestic Abuse?
Domestic abuse is when you are being abused, threatened, physically or sexually assaulted by a partner, former partner or family member where honour based violence is the issue.
As well as actual physical violence, domestic abuse can involve a wide range of abusive and controlling behaviour, such as:
We aim to give you a decision in writing about your application within 28 days of your first interview. This may be longer in some cases where we have had to gather more information from other sources to provide detail and evidence to your case (e.g. asking for medical information from your doctor).
The notification letter will state what decision has been made and will explain the reasons for the decision. It will also give you information about what happens next and what to do if you want to appeal against the decision.
When you have completed the Homeless Person’s Application form your case will be assigned to a Housing Options Officer.
The Officer will carry out a full assessment of your situation, which may involve further interviews or home visits.
Once the Officer has all the relevant information you will be notified of the council’s decision, in writing. Our target is to carry out the assessment within 28 days.

It is important that you notify our Lettings Centre, Tel: 0300 123 9023 or 307400, as soon as possible if your circumstances change as this may affect your points total and/or your category and how quickly you are considered for rehousing.

We will send you an acknowledgment letter within 15 working days.
Your letter will advise you of the areas, size, type and location of accommodation you have chosen and the number of points you have and/or group you have been placed in and what they are for.
