Tay Road Bridge preparation works

Enabling works to allow easier access to and from the Tay Road Bridge during the next phase of refurbishment activity are set to get underway next month.

The bridgehead roundabout and B946 “splitter island” will be adapted to allow a left hand turn off the bridge when the second phase of bridge works starts in spring.

Within the next two months major works will get underway on the bridge involving carriageway closures and traffic management arrangements on the south (Fife) bound, in a mirror image of similar work successfully completed last year.

The works will see the original 1966 surface completely removed down to the concrete bridge deck and waterproofing applied before a new asphalt surface is laid on top. In addition, new expansion or movement joints will be installed on the southbound carriageway.

With the actual start date on the major bridge works still dependent on a number of factors, including weather, it will be announced nearer the time.

Lasting seven working days, and clearly signposted, the enabling works are expected to start on February 12.
