'Recycling: Let’s Sort It' Campaign

A new Dundee recycling campaign has been launched urging residents in the city to sort their rubbish into the correct bins before disposing of it.
The campaign, entitled ‘Recycling: Let’s Sort It’, aims to boost recycling and encourage the people of Dundee to use Council resources such as the Dundee MyBins App and the A-Z Recycling Guide to sort their waste and put the right item in the right bin.
Speaking about the launch of the campaign, in which city bin lorries are emblazoned in campaign-related advertising, the Council’s Environment Conveners have urged members of the public to take heed of the new initiative.
Climate, Environment & Biodiversity Convener Cllr Heather Anderson said: “The Let’s Sort It Campaign is designed to help everybody in Dundee recycle more of their waste, so it’s not wasted.
“Lots of Dundonians are doing the right thing now, but this campaign will hopefully make it easier for all of us to put the right thing in the right bin, making sure that paper and glass are reused and plastics don’t end up in the Tay, but instead get re-processed into new plastic or even sweatshirts!
“Every time we put something in the recycling, it also relieves pressure on the grey bins and the Eurobins, creating less mess in the street and making sure we don’t waste time, money and energy dealing with waste that could be recycled.
“Apart from being the right thing to do, when we recycle correctly, it generates an income for the council which we then re-invest into the service.”
Depute Convener Councillor Nadia El-Nakla said: “We need to be ambitious in our efforts to recycle. We want Dundee to be a leader on environmental responsibility and in order to make that happen, we all need to take action when dealing with our rubbish.
“We ask that members of the public check before they chuck. By looking at where each item should be going and sorting out the waste for each bin, we can recycle much better as a city.
“The Council has developed some really useful tools to support residents with this process.”
The Council collects waste through kerbside bin collections, Eurobins, bring sites for glass, the Baldovie and Riverside recycling centres, as well as through commercial trade waste and its internally generated waste. All of these collection methods contribute to the city’s recycling performance.
Information on what should be put into which bin can also be found on the Dundee City Council website.
