Have Your Say on Future Development in Dundee

Blackness Road Housing Construction Site

People are being encouraged to have their say to help shape the future of development across Dundee.

The city council is preparing the next Local Development Plan (LDP), which will shape the land use strategy for the city.

This proposed plan will be informed by an evidence report and will set out:

  • Where new development should take place - and where it should not.
  • A spatial strategy, showing how land will be used and developed during the plan period.
  • Policies and proposals to guide decisions on planning applications.

Two consultations are now underway to gather feedback from stakeholders.

These are:

Call for Sites

Prospective developers are invited to submit proposed sites for development through the Call for Sites survey. This will be used to identify and assess the specific sites which landowners and the development industry would wish to see included in the next Local Development Plan.

Call for Ideas

The Call for Ideas is the main way for communities, organisations, and stakeholders to share their views on what the proposed plan should include.

Suggestions can cover matters like proposed land use, as well as planning policies on housing, climate change, and infrastructure.

Submissions are open until 31 March 2026 and can be made online at the Planning Division Consultations webpage.

Further information and updates on the Dundee Local Development Plan Review will be available on the council’s website.

Councillor Steven Rome, convener of the City Growth and Infrastructure Committee, said: “Getting the LDP right will help to make Dundee thrive going forward.

"I would ask anyone with an interest in the future of the city to come forward and give their views in order to support the evidence requirements for future development in the city."

Councillor Will Dawson, convener of the Planning Committee said: “I would encourage people to get involved as the LDP will have a huge influence on what Dundee will look like going forward.

"The LDP will determine what can be built and where, while giving us a framework for taking decisions and making recommendations on applications."
