Council Leader Hails Success of the Dundee Get Together

Dundee Get Together

Council Leader Cllr Mark Flynn today hailed the success of the Dundee Get Together, describing it as a “powerful demonstration” of community spirit, kindness and Dundee’s cultural diversity.

The event took place in City Square on Saturday 13 June, and was an afternoon of entertainment, activities and community celebration.

Over 5,000 people attended across the afternoon, including around 600 from over 35 organisations taking part in the parade

The colourful community parade set off from the High School of Dundee, led by the Dundee City Pipe Band, travelling along Reform Street before arriving in City Square with spectators lining the whole route and cheering on the participants.

Uppertunity, a local charity based in Dundee, provided meals for the participants after they have completed their walk through the city centre.

After the parade there was Scottish, African and Indian music and dancing on stage, as well as lots of free activities for the whole family to enjoy and refreshments.

Cllr Flynn walked alongside the Lord Provost of Dundee Bill Campbell, elected members and schools captains from Harris & St John’s high schools.

Cllr Flynn said: “The first Dundee Get Together has been a tremendous success. It was fantastic to see so many people come together and experience the incredible work being carried out across our communities.

"It was a powerful demonstration of unity and community spirit. It shows that Dundee stands together against hate and division and remains united in its commitment to peace, kindness and the celebration of cultural diversity.

“These are values that define our city and make Dundee such a welcoming place for everyone.

"I would like to thank everyone who attended, as well as the volunteers and staff who helped make the day such a success."

A highlights video can be viewed on the Council’s YouTube Channel and photographs of the event have been shared on social media.

feedback survey is available for those who attended the event to tell organisers what they thought of the Dundee Get Together to help shape future events.
