£2.5 million investment in Dundee schools

Over £2.5 million will be spent improving schools in Dundee, with improvements planned to buildings and facilities across the city.
The Children and Families Committee will hear that money will be invested in boiler replacements, underfloor heating works, toilet upgrades, and emergency lighting improvements.
Planned works for 2026/27 include £400,000 for roof replacement works at Craigiebarns Primary School and £400,000 for window replacements at Eastern Primary School.
The committee is being asked to note the updated position on the condition and suitability of the learning estate, along with the programme of improvement works.
The report also highlights the strong condition of the learning estate with all council secondary schools and standalone nurseries rated either good or satisfactory, receiving an ‘A’ or ‘B’ rating for condition and suitability.
All primary schools are rated ‘A’ or ‘B’ for suitability, while 28 of the city's 33 primary schools are rated ‘A’ or ‘B’ for condition. Improvement works are scheduled to take place at all primary schools currently rated ‘C’ for condition.
The committee will also hear that, during 2025/26, more than £1.5 million was spent on general upgrading works, including underfloor heating improvements at Harris Academy and the final phase of rewiring works at Barnhill Primary School.
Children and Families and Communities Convenor Stewart Hunter said: "We are committed to providing the best possible learning environment for our children and young people, and this £2.5 million investment over the year ahead will help ensure they continue to benefit from well-maintained school facilities.
"The current condition of our educational estate reflects the significant investment made in recent years. We are aware of those school buildings that require attention, and work has either been completed or is scheduled to address these issues."
The Children and Families Committee will meet on Monday 22nd June 2026.
