Can you vote? ...... not everyone can ......
You have to be 18 or over and
- a British citizen; or
- a citizen or another qualifying Commonwealth country.
European Union citizens are not entitled to vote at UK Parliamentary Elections, details can be found on the Electoral Commission website.
Polling Cards
Poll letters will be sent to existing electors from Monday 10 June.
If your name is on the register of electors and you are aged 18 or over, you will, unless you are further included in the absent voters list, get a polling letter. This will tell you where your Polling Station is and when it is open. The letter is for information only. Don't worry if you lose it or forget it - you can still vote without it. It just makes it easier if you take it to the Polling Station and show it to the clerk.You will need to show a valid form of Voter ID at your polling station.
If you don't receive a polling letter, this could mean that you are registered at an old address or are not included on the register. If you live in Dundee you should call the Electoral Registration Officer (ERO) on 01382 434444.
Voting in Person
To vote in person you should go to the Polling Station listed on your Polling letter. The clerk will give you a ballot paper to place a cross against the candidate of your choice. Remember to bring ID with you.
Voting by Post
The last day to apply to vote by post is Tuesday 2 June 2026 (17:00).
Once your ballot paper arrives, complete it, and return it through Royal Mail as soon as possible.
If you can't post your postal vote in time, you can take it your polling station on polling day.
Not everyone can apply - go to the 'How to Register' page for information. When you have been granted a postal vote your Ballot Paper will then be sent to you by post, prior to the elections. Complete the paper and return it as directed. You will also be sent a postal voter poll card confirming that you have a postal vote nearer this time.
The last day for receipt of applications by the ERO for this by-election is Tuesday 2 June.

Voting by Proxy
The last day to appoint a proxy in time for the election date is Tuesday 9 June 2026 at 17:00. You can apply online.
The deadline for emergency proxy applications is Thursday 18 June at 17:00.
