Following a multi-million pound transformation, transformation of Bell Street Multistorey car park into the newly-named Bell Street Hub was undertaken after Dundee City Council was allocated £14.4 million from the UK Government’s Levelling Up Fund.
The main work undertaken includes the installation of electrical vehicle chargers supported by a solar panel array on the roof with a battery storage system. A full mechanical and electrical upgrade was undertaken as well as the installation of new feature cladding and construction of the ground floor green travel facility. The area surrounding the car park includes enhanced landscaping with active travel routes designed with consideration of future active travel connections and development.
Angus Cycle Hub CIC has now been appointed by Dundee City Council to operate the green travel facility. A bike and wheeled sports skill park, regional bike reuse centre and cycle lending scheme will all be available to the public.
Planned facilities and programmes include:
- Bike and Wheeled Sports Skills Park: Indoor modular cycle training space and pump track for bicycles, BMX, scooters, adaptive bikes, and early years cycling education.
- Regional Bike Reuse Centre: Refurbishment, sale and redistribution of up to 4,000 bikes annually through existing recycling agreements.
- Public Bike Library & Leasing Scheme: Affordable subscription model for residents, students, visitors and low-income users.
- Cycle Shop & Servicing: Retail and repair services to support local cycling and generate income to make the project sustainable.
- Secure Public Cycle Storage and Amenities: 150+ secure bike spaces.
- Cargo Bike and Ebike Hire: Low-carbon urban logistics and mobility options.
