Keep Our Recycling Centres Safe – Dispose of Hazardous Items Properly
Some everyday items can pose serious safety risks if not disposed of correctly. Pressurised containers, vapes, lithium batteries, and other combustible materials can cause fires, explosions, or harm to staff and the public if placed in the wrong bins.
These items must be separated and placed in the designated containers at the recycling centres. Never put them in your non-recyclable general waste or recycling bins at home.
What to Watch Out For:
- Gas canisters & aerosols
- Vapes & e-cigarettes
- Lithium-ion batteries (from e-scooters, e-bikes, phones, laptops, tools, etc.). Where possible batteries should be removed and placed in the battery storage containers at the recycling centres. See 'Materials We Accept section' for more information.
- Electricals with built-in batteries
Before visiting the recycling centre, we recommend you check the section 'Materials We Accept' for further guidance.
If you're unsure, ask a member of staff on site. They’re here to help you dispose of these items safely.
