Nashashibi/Skaer: Chimera

Nashashibi/Skaer: Chimera Image
Chimera is an exhibition bringing together newly commissioned film, sculpture, painting and prints with existing film work by Nashashibi/Skaer.

Nashashibi/Skaer is the collaborative practice of Turner Prize nominated artists Rosalind Nashashibi and Lucy Skaer.

At the heart of Chimera is a new combination of three collaborative films, Our Magnolia (2009), Lamb (2019) and Bear (2021), which hybridise photographic images with musical composition, drawing and painting, skewing them to form new experiences.

Commissioned by Cooper Gallery Bear (2021) was made during lockdown, in collaboration with Cantonese Opera singer Zhuo Peili, and animator and DJCAD graduate Regina Ohak.

The films will be accompanied by limited edition posters and two new solo works by Skaer and Nashashibi in response to the architectural space of Cooper Gallery, adding new meanings and destabilising the boundaries between the formal qualities inherent to each particular artwork and their respective practices.

This exhibition follows on from Nashashibi/Skaer's exhibition as part of Cooper Gallery's international project CURRENT: Contemporary Art from Scotland which was the first major presentation in China of contemporary Art made in Scotland featuring over 40 artists between 2015 ' 2021.

CURRENT | 不吿濶宿 : Contemporary Art from Scotland is a project curated by Cooper Gallery and delivered in partnership with significant contemporary art organisations in China and the British Council with funding from Scot Gov and Creative Scotland.

Opening Times:
