Broughty Ferry Beach has again been included in Keep Scotland Beautiful’s prestigious Scotland’s Beach Awards scheme.

The Scotland’s Beach Awards are set up as an independent national benchmark for local environment quality measuring and to celebrate clean, well-managed and sustainable beaches.

The beaches are assessed annually and must demonstrate excellent beach management and environmental best practice to score well.

Broughty Ferry Beach is no stranger to being included in the Awards, with the latest inclusion in this year’s 2022 Scotland’s Beach Awards meaning it features for the 19th time.

Neighbourhood Services Convener Councillor Heather Anderson said: “It’s fantastic to see Broughty Ferry Beach be presented with this national Beach Award by Keep Scotland Beautiful.

“The bathing water quality at the beach has recently been given excellent ratings and this award is yet another accolade for the quality and management of the beach.

“It’s a great asset for the area and continues to be enjoyed by many visitors and locals all year round.

“We, of course, continue to ask all visitors to Broughty Ferry Beach to dispose of their litter responsibly and to always clean up after their dogs to ensure the beach can carry on winning more awards in the future.”

Chief Executive Officer of Keep Scotland Beautiful Barry Fisher said, “It is wonderful to see all the sites win Scotland’s Beach Award status this year, with Broughty Ferry Beach in Dundee City and we are delighted to celebrate with all those employees and volunteers who work tirelessly to ensure award standards are maintained.

“As the only accreditation for beach management of its kind in Scotland, we aim to drive up environmental standards along the coastline of our country for residents and visitors alike.”

Broughty Ferry Beach also recently received an ‘excellent’ water quality status for its bathing water following a nationwide assessment carried out by Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA).
