Members of the public are being invited along to City Square to show their support for the Commonwealth of Nations’ Flag of Peace initiative as part of this year’s Commonwealth Day.

On Monday 13th March, a ceremony will take place from 10:30am, with the flag raising to take place at 11am, to mark the tenth anniversary of the signing of the Commonwealth Charter.

Lord Provost Bill Campbell said: “We raise this Commonwealth of Nations’ Flag of Peace in our city in order to show how strongly we value the personal dignity and worth of every citizen in the wider Commonwealth community.

“It’s increasingly important that we take the time to reaffirm our commitment to peace and all of the values set out within the Commonwealth Charter, given recent events in the wider international community.

“I hope that the people of Dundee, who can, use this time on Monday 13th to reflect on the importance of peace and the sacrifices citizens of the Commonwealth have made for our freedoms.”

The Commonwealth of Nations’ Flag of Peace features a white dove in the bottom right-hand corner symbolising the shared values and principles of the Commonwealth, including co-operation on economic and social development, diversity, respect, friendship and the promotion of peace around the world.
