Sea Kayaking Intro Course

Sea Kayaking Intro Course Image
First time in a Sea Kayak? Tried it before and wish to develop your skills? Got a specific skill you want to improve? Our evening sessions are a great way to meet these and other objectives. Using a number of different sheltered venues to get the most out of the conditions, each week will build on the last or can be a stand-alone session, ensuring you are quipped to head out on longer day trips.

Introduction to Sea Kayaking - the boat, the equipment and basic paddling (at Clatto). All equipment is provided, your guide will get you set up in the right boat and provide instruction in basic paddling skills. By the end of this session you will be confident in the boat and moving it where you want to go.

Basic rescue/what to do in the event of capsize (Clatto) - The wet week - as you develop more skills you might head into rougher water and this may mean that you or someone in your group/party ends up in the sea. What to do and how to help someone is a fundamental skill of any sea kayaker.

Moving the kayak - how to get your kayak where you want it, when you want it (sea cadet). What is a 'Skeg'? How do you 'edge' your boat? Why am I always going to the right? Having someone alongside you and providing some yop tips and handy hints as you develop can save you many hours of hard work, so come along and learn from your experienced guide.

Improving your skills and putting things into context (Broughty Ferry). With your new or improved skills, join us for an evening paddle, using the conditions to our advantage. We may visit any number of amazing venues on the Tay Estuary, going on a journey allowing skills to be put into context.

Session Times:
Thu 19th & Thu 26th Aug (1800-2100)
Sat 28th Aug (0900-1700)
