Records Management
Dundee City Council creates large amounts of records as part of its day to day activities. These records act as evidence of actions, decisions and business carried out by the Council. Records management ensures that records are stored and retained in an appropriate manner. Good records management also ensures that the Council is able to comply with information legislation, including the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002 and the Data Protection Act 2018.

Buildings - Historic Records
There are a number of historical records held in Archives pertaining to the built environment which provide a better understanding of when buildings were built or altered and with the housing surveys, also gives a clear indication to their condition.
Maps
Dundee City Archives hold a collection of acquired maps and plans. We also hold plans that were used by the City Engineer and other officials.
What can I view online?
You can view a wide variety of maps on the National Library of Scotland’s website. These include Ordnance Survey maps, town plans, regional maps, geological, military and estate maps.
