Records Management

Dundee City Council creates large amounts of records as part of its day to day activities. These records act as evidence of actions, decisions and business carried out by the Council. Records management ensures that records are stored and retained in an appropriate manner. Good records management also ensures that the Council is able to comply with information legislation, including the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002 and the Data Protection Act 2018.

Maps

Dundee City Archives hold a collection of acquired maps and plans. We also hold plans that were used by the City Engineer and other officials.

What can I view online?

You can view a wide variety of maps on the National Library of Scotland’s website. These include Ordnance Survey maps, town plans, regional maps, geological, military and estate maps.

Church Records

We hold records for the many churches in and around Dundee.

Please note: The Old Parochial Registers of baptisms and marriages were transferred to the custody of the Registrar General for Scotland in 1855 following the introduction of mandatory civil registration. These records have been indexed and are available to search and view online at www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk.
