What: Local community planning is about bringing services and communities closer together so that communities can influence how services are planned and delivered.
How: In Dundee, local community planning is delivered by 8 Local Community Planning Partnerships (one in each Ward). The Local Community Planning Partnership agrees and delivers a series of actions, written into a Local Community Plan.
Why: Local community planning ensures that services are coordinated at a local level and that local people can have an influence on how that service is provided. What works in one community does not always work in the next, so local community planning allows for that flexibility to be provided.
Example: Community Centres across Dundee are run in partnership between services and local volunteers on a Local Management Group. This ensures that local needs and aspirations are reflected in the services provided and the programme of activities that are developed for the Centre. This is local community planning in action.
