The Council passed a resolution in 1983 that all of the optional provisions in the Civic Government (Scotland) Act 1982 would require to be licensed and accordingly anyone who, for example, wishes to trade in the street or deal in second hand goods, must be licensed.
These activities are listed below, together with all other activities which are licensed, with the exceptions of Taxis, Betting and Gaming and Liquor Licences which can be found in their own sections on this site.

For premises which board animals.
- Breeding of Dogs Licence
For premises where dogs are bred for sale.
- Cinema Licence
Required for premises which are used for film exhibitions.
- Dangerous Wild Animals Licence
Required for keeping dangerous wild animals.
- Game Dealer Certificate
Required to deal in Game.
- House in Multiple Occupation Licence
The Private Sector Services Unit deals with applications for Houses in Multiple Occupation (HMOs).
- Indoor Sports Entertainment Licence
Required for Sport Halls where the public are admitted to view sporting events.
- Late Hours Catering Licence
Required for Catering Premises open between 11 pm and 5 am.
- Market Operator Licence
Required to operate a market.
- Marriage (Approval of Places)
Required for permises (other than Local Authority premises) where Civil Marriages may be performed.
- Metal Dealer / Itinerant Metal Dealer Licence
Required to deal in metal.
- Mini Bus Permit
Required to drive a Mini Bus. This application is not available online. Please telephone 01382 434468 to obtain one or alternatively email elsie.burnett@dundeecity.gov.uk.
- Performing Animals Registration
Required to allow the performing of animals.
- Pet Animals Registration
Required for Pet Shops.
- Piercing and Tattooing Licence
Required for Piercing and Tattooing Shops.
- Public Entertainment Licence
Required where the public are admitted upon payment (Circuses, Carnivals etc).
- Public Charitable Collection
- Riding Establishment Licence
Required where horses can be hired.
- Second Hand Dealer Licence
Required to deal in Second Hand goods.
- Sex Shop Licence
Required to operate as a Sex Shop.
- Societies Lotteries Licence
Required to sell Raffle Tickets etc.
- Street Trader Licence
Required to trade in a public place.
- Theatre Licence
Required to perform plays.
- Track Betting Licence
Required to permit betting at a track.
- Use of City Square / Murraygate
- Venison Dealer Registration
Required to deal in Venison.
- Window Cleaner Licence
Required to clean windows.
