'The Barber-Surgeon' in Dr T. A. Wise's Imperial Visions of Medical Service
An in-gallery evening talk delivered by Dr Shrimoy Chaudhury, Department of History, Shiv Nadar University, Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh, India. The historical journey of surgery from being a provincial trade in Scotland to an imperial medical service in British India over the late eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. The starting point is Wise's recognition of "the barber-surgeon" in his native assistant, who was uninitiated in the advances of modern surgery.
